jasper_signing.jpgOne of the few high spots, in an otherwise desperately unattended CT food show, was the appearance of our long time favorite chef Jasper White for a book signing for "The Summer Shack Cookbook." This is the latest seafood cookbook from the prodigious Jasper.

Summer Shack has a location at Mohegan Sun and from what we gather, it does very well thanks to the extended hours that the casino needs to feed the hungry gambling public. I can imagine the high-rollers heading over at 2am for a celebratory lobster after winning a bundle.

Speaking about Mohegan Sun restaurants, we visited the anchor location, Tuscany, a Todd English fronted restaurant of grand proportions nestled behind a waterfall at the very center of the casinos and shops.

I am sure that Todd enjoys the Mohegan cash that flows from them using his name on the restaurant. The sad thing is that the food is well below par compared to a "real" English eatery. Our dishes were phoned-in by the laconic chefs working behind a glass walled kitchen in the restaurant. My lobster cannelloni would have done a Bertolli freezer product proud. It appeared to be a previously frozen dish of limp, watery and lack luster appeal.

Apparently Todd was in the building on the evening we visited the restaurant. The wait staff were all a twitter about the celebrity chef's appearance (the hint of an Elvis sized ego here). One can only hope that he was there to take the chefs to task over their abuse of his otherwise good name.
